The appearance of the library containing books is shaped like a huge book. Would you believe me if I came just to see the front door? You must take my word for it. Because of course there are things to see around the library as well. There is a park where you can relax. On the first floor of the library, there is a cafe where you can buy tea and snacks, and the restrooms are clean. This place especially has a lot of records and video-related materials. There are many special programs for children, so take note! Another advantage is that the materials are well divided into separate rooms and sections. Above all, the security guard at the desk was very friendly and nice.
This is a very large library that's very easy to access with a lot of activities for children. Every inch of the building is spotless including the restrooms.
There is plenty of street parking and the building is handicap accessible. Currently they are running the book of HOV exhibit for the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and there are fees required to enter. The library and the surrounding area is great for taking photos.
We came for "The Book of HOV" exhibit. If you are both a fan of Jay-Z/Hip Hop AND museums/libraries, this is for you! You only have 1 more week to enjoy. The exhibit closes on Dec 4th. All aspects of his musical & business life are displayed. Very educational & entertaining. All libraries should take note. I am sure people are here who rarely visit libraries.
Went to see The Book of HOV exhibit. It was fantastic. An interesting look at Jay-Z's career as a musical artist. It was also cool to see a museums quality exhibit in a place that is free and accessible to all.
The Jay Z exhibit was quite spectacular showcasing many different Jay Z and Rockafella Items and antiques. The presentation in and outside the building is awesome. This is a free exhibit that every New Yorker should see at least once before it is removed. The Grand Library is also very beautiful with old architecture on the outside and new architecture on the inside. Great Exhibit for a NYC legend!
The Book of HOV exhibit is amazing.
It’s hard to capture decades worth of major contributions to music, philanthropy, prison reform, community/world issues, sports and culture into one exhibit but this one does an incredible job of telling his story.
Glad we got to see it, would definitely see it again.
I wanted to see the Jay Z exhibit and this place didn’t disappoint. The outside of the facade has been overlayed with pages from his book! Fire! There’s also a huge four paneled monitor which constantly rotates images and videos of Jay Z throughout his career as you approach the museum. Along the side of eastern parkway they have his first Lexus car on display. The entry is free! The exhibit has 8 sections which include a model of his original studio, a section which shows books and music catalogs in his personal collection, which also has monitors and headphones so watch special content. You’re free to start at whatever section you want but some sections had long lines and other was easier to walk through. I got there around 3PM and the line seemed a little long but it was moving quickly! I wish I had gotten there earlier because I would have loved to have seen the whole thing but the lines just weren’t worth it for me.
We drove here all the way from DC to visit the Book of Hov exhibit. I'm not a Jay Z fan, my fiance is but I thought the exhibit was BEAUTIFULLY done. I really enjoyed everything I saw and learned a lot more about Jay Z. Well done Central Library!
